My Background

Howdy!

I’m Mike Rolon, also known as midilor in online spaces. I’ve always had a creative itch and drive to make things aesthetically and acoustically pleasing. I was born in Los Angeles, California, moved around a lot in my childhood, and then finally settled down in Austin, TX.

I’ve been a musician for as long as I can remember, first learning the saxophone in grade 6. In high school, I had the honor of being a part of the Texas Music Educators Association’s 5A All-State Band two years in a row, a memory I will forever be fond of. When I graduated I left for college at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. I joined the university jazz band my freshman year while I was studying biomedical sciences. I then transferred out of that degree and instead focused on environmental geoscience. I was a student by day, a musician by night. I began learning guitar, drums, bass, and DAW software around my sophomore year of college. I was in a few different independent bands before I graduated, all of which greatly increased my working knowledge of composition and song structure. I am still constantly learning new things and experimenting with what I can create.

After graduating, I took on a few roles across different industries, you can find my resume here, and I worked with small businesses doing freelance design, branding, and marketing. After my last role working for a company, I decided I wanted to lean in on my natural creative abilities and apply them to branding and company culture. Since then, I’ve launched brands from the ground up, including a local service business, an e-commerce store, and a gaming platform startup. I also recorded a solo album in which I recorded all the instruments, wrote all the lyrics, mixed and mastered, edited the album cover, and published across all streaming platforms under the name Flopside.

Along the way, I learned graphic design, photo editing, video editing, and brand strategy. I also learned that storytelling is a skill; one I practice and understand intuitively, constantly refining. Now I apply that creative instinct to building things that resonate and stick with people.
